Sandwich degree courses at Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH
Starting a dual or sandwich course of studies means having to lead a double life: at Reed Exhibitions in Düsseldorf and at the Duale Hochschule in Ravensburg. Yet in time you come to realise that these two different lives have one thing in common: a passion for trade fairs. During the practical phases at Reed Exhibitions you're very close to the events. Right from day one you're a member of a team and you're given your own task areas and responsibilities - you become a part of the whole. On the days spent at the exhibition centres, all the various smaller exhibition and service teams come together to form one large team which then shares the excitement, the challenges and ultimately relief and joy that are all part of staging a successful event. Ravensburg, on the other hand, allows you to meet large numbers of other students with similar interests. Doing a sandwich course is hard work, of course, but the practical experience of the lecturers, who often talk about things which happen to them in their work, is interesting and motivating. You soon get used to moving around and living out of a suitcase, and the fact that you make so many friends from all over the country suddenly makes Germany seem much smaller. And so after a while these two different worlds start to converge. More than anything else, it's the people you meet in these two worlds who make this course so interesting.

... means varied theory phases, because there are so many interesting departments such as exhibition project departments, new business development and marketing, to work your way through. During the practical phases you discover all sorts of parallels between what you learn in your studies and what actually happens in practice in the company. In the theory phases, on the other hand, you get explanations of the economic principles behind some of the procedures you encounter in the company. But the lecturers at Berufsakademie Ravensburg don't just give you dry theory, they explain many of the points based on actual examples from business. Students come together at the Berufsakademie Ravensburg from a wide variety of companies which provide training, such as exhibition organisers, stand-fitters and events agencies. This gives us the opportunity to compare notes with students from other sectors - and above all to forge contacts for the future.

… a sandwich degree programme which offers a combination of high quality theoretical education and practical implementation. The "learning by doing" philosophy gives you a good insight into the industry, alternating every three months between the Berufsakademie in Ravensburg and the training company. The training is varied and covers a large number of different activities and work areas, allowing you to find your own strengths and to prove yourself. A further advantage of this type of learning - especially at Reed Exhibitions - is the fact that you get to experience the tangible results of your project work in the form of a successful trade fair or a successful event. That really motivates you for the next project.
