Sarah Voss - Project Assistant at Reed, MODERNER STAAT

Why I wanted to stay at Reed after my internship...

While studying Business Administration I soon noticed just how interested I was in the trade fair business. I've always been fascinated by exhibitions - assessing the stands of the different exhibitors, observing the visitors... So it didn't take me very long at all to decide to do an internship in exhibition management to gain an insight into what happens "backstage". My seven-month internship at Reed Exhibitions gave me the opportunity not only to obtain a fascinating insight into the daily work of an exhibition team, but also to get actively involved in everything. What I particularly enjoyed was the fact that I was immediately given my own projects within the team. I could then work on these completely independently - although always checking back with the project managers. I was able to input my own ideas and creativity. During my internship at the SHOWTECH I worked both on exhibition organisation and also in sales. My responsibilities included generating stand confirmations and stand proposals, providing support to exhibitors, producing emails and mailouts, organising the "Safety Stage" etc.

I was so proud when, from June 16 -18 at the SHOWTECH 2009 in Berlin, I saw for myself the results of what we had been working so long and hard on. The exhibition was a total success, and both the exhibitors and the visitors were completely satisfied.

After finishing my internship I was taken on permanently as a Project Assistant with the MODERNER STAAT exhibition, and am now delighted to have joined the Reed team. It's great fun being able to work together with all the different exhibitors, visitors and service providers.

I'm already looking forward to the next exhibition.

Sandra Schulz – Sign fairs placement student - since Oct. 2006 Marketing Assistant at Reed

Why I wanted to stay at Reed after my placement...

Throughout my degree course I became very interested in the exhibition business and during my placement at Reed Exhibitions I got the opportunity to gain a fascinating insight into the daily work of an exhibition organising company. I did my placement in the project organisation team of the viscom exhibition. There I was responsible for visitor inquiries, exhibitor service orders, visa applications etc. As a placement trainee you're very quickly given your own areas of responsibility to take care of. This means you very quickly feel part of the whole team. After the doors closed on my first exhibition I felt really proud because, despite the odd unforeseen incident, it was a total success both for the exhibitors and the visitors. It's the interaction between the exhibitors, visitors, media partners and associations which makes exhibition life so exciting and varied. For my dissertation I was able to explore these aspects at the practical level while working on the COMPOSITES EUROPE fair which was launched in September 2006, and incorporate them in my visitor marketing concept. I am now delighted to be a permanent member of the Reed team and I'm sure that my new job as marketing assistant will be a lot of fun.

Frank Mertz – Business Development placement student, today Project Manager Sales at Reed

For me as a young graduate it made a great deal of sense to gain work experience on a placement in an international company. Basically, a willingness to develop your skills and knowledge is one of the key qualities you should bring to Reed Deutschland - for it's something you'll certainly be able to do there! It's at the root the company's entire corporate philosophy. There is a healthy balance between being challenged and being given support. So, either as a student or a graduate, choosing Reed Deutschland makes long-term sense. My strategy of taking a step backwards was rewarded, because now I'm a part of the permanent team!
