Corporate Responsibility
Corporate Responsibility
"As one of the world's leading media companies we have a responsibility to all our stakeholders."
Sir Crispin Davis, Chief Executive (2003)
As the subsidiary of an international group we carry corporate responsibility towards our shareholders and employees. However we believe that it is not possible to run a successful business without showing a sense of responsibility towards society at large and the environment. As a company we are committed to taking the ecological and social effects of running our business into account, and to assuming responsibility for our actions and towards the society we are part of.
Our goal, therefore, is to harmonise our economic success with our social commitment and our environment protection - with programmes such as Reed Elsevier Cares, Green Reed and our Code of Ethics.
Reed Elsevier Cares
Our global Reed Elsevier Cares community programme provides the framework for the group and the individual business units to assume its corporate and social responsibility.
Focussing on education for disadvantaged young people and on projects which are of special importance for our employees, RELX is committed financially, and through local and global activities, to making a positive contribution. Under this programme Reed Exhibitions Deutschland, and our employees in particular, actively support organisations amongst others such as Christmas in a shoe-box or Just a drop.
Green Reed
All our business activities have a direct or indirect effect on the environment (e.g. through the consumption of energy and water, through the necessary disposal of waste or through business trips), yet we always strive to keep the impact as small as possible. This is why Reed Exhibitions Deutschland prefers to collaborate with suppliers and service providers which also act in an environmentally responsible manner.
Environment protection should always start at home, which is why all Reed Exhibitions subsidiaries have set up green teams which try to identify specific ways of improving environmental protection, both in the business units and in the individual business activities themselves.
Code of Ethics
With the aim of ensuring that ethical standards are observed in all corporate activities, RELX has signed the "United Nations Global Compact" - a voluntary initiative in which companies take responsibility for protecting human rights, ensuring fair working practices, protecting the environment and eliminating corruption.
All German RELX companies are also committed to the Code of Ethics which is based on the "RELX Code of Ethics und Business Conduct". This code for ethical business practices represents a manual for achieving our corporate targets in an open, honest, ethical and principled manner and supported Sustainable Development Goals.
