EGX Berlin 2020 will not take place:
Ban on major events prevents the ability to plan
EGX Berlin 2020, originally planned from 30 October to 1 November, will not take place. The reason for this is the ban on major events in Berlin - extended early to 24 October at the end of April. The Berlin "Major Event Ban Ordinance", issued against the background of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, goes beyond the current nationwide deadline of 31 August. Apart from sports and cultural events, the ordinance expressly prohibits trade shows with more than 5,000 "attendees".
"At present, it is not possible to foresee how the key points agreed in principle by the Federal-Länder Conference on 6 May will be implemented in detail at Länder level. In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, trade fairs are now permitted again under certain conditions from 30 May onwards. Exceptions to this rule are consumer shows, which include EGX Berlin. In order to allow exhibitors and fans to better plan and to avoid a possible cancellation at short notice, we have made our decision now to not hold EGX Berlin this year," says Gregor Bischkopf of the EGX Berlin: "It is a pity that we have to suspend, but I believe that everyone understands that, despite the disappointment, we had no other choice in the current situation".
